This is one of those questions that I get asked a lot. Where should I put my money this year? What’s the best token, stock or company I should invest in?

You know, there are a ton of good companies you can invest in. But that’s not what this post is about.

In fact, this blog post is something about totally different — well, not entirely BUT I believe what will make you a great amount of return this year isn’t a company, technology or the greatest bull run of all time.

What I can tell you though is, what you will learn from this article will be the best investment you will make in your life.

The best investment you can make is actually in yourself. That’s what will make you in 2018 and every year to come thereafter.

So if you would like to know why investing in yourself will be the best investment you have made in 2018, keep on reading and I will tell you not only why but how. Including the strategies, I have used in my life to become a better version of myself and become more educated.

“There is no more profitable investment than investing in yourself. It is the best investment you can make; you can never go wrong with it. It is the true way to improve yourself to be the best version of you and lets you be able to best serve those around you.”
― Roy T. Bennett

When you invest in yourself, it means taking on the importance of educating yourself. Education not in the academic or technical sense, though they are necessary skills to be developed in life. Our education does not and should not stop at college.

Who This Is For

You might be wondering, why do I need to invest in myself. I have nothing to offer people nor do I run a business that needs me to become better every day. I’m comfortable where I am.

Don’t fool yourself. You need this. Everybody needs this. Doesn’t matter where you live or who you are. Personal development can truly change your life.

Do you fall under any of these categories?

  • Entrepreneur
  • Religious Person
  • Spiritual Person
  • Trader
  • Want to accelerate your career
  • Improve your relationship
  • Grow your business
  • Increase your income

This list could go on but you get the point. No excuses.

Why It’s The Best Investment

Before we go into the actual steps on how you can invest in yourself this year I want to start with why it is, in fact, the best investment. That way you can see the value and hopefully pursue this path.

Personal development has been around in every culture for the longest time we can remember and has been proved to be successful. It’s one of those things that just works. The ROI is greater than anything money can buy. It will have an impact on every area of your life such as religion, relationships, and finances.

When you invest in an asset, returns are expected but when money is spent, it’s gone. The return might not be seen right away, but just like with a seed, it has been planted and in order to see the result, time needs to play its role.

  • It’s a proven model
  • ROI in every area of your life
  • You become happier
  • You become a better person
  • You increase your income
  • You value life more

How To Start

So how do you start investing in yourself? For some people this is simple, but some people just don’t know where to start.

First, figure out what you want in life. Which areas in your life do you want to grow in? For some, this may be relationships, for others financially.

There are multiple resources you can use to start investing in yourself. Whether that may be using your invested time or money.

Here are some mediums you can use to start investing in yourself aka educating yourself:

  • Books
  • Audiobooks
  • YouTube videos
  • Hiring a coach or mentor
  • Attending conferences and events

Each of the above items has their own benefit and shows how serious you are about educating yourself. If you are only watching YouTube videos, you are not investing in yourself financially. While this may be hard for some people, it does go a long way.

When you invest in yourself financially, you make a commitment to yourself that you will put in the work. It’s easier to put things off when there is no money on the line. That’s why some coaches charge thousands of dollar to work with someone because then they can make sure they are seriously committed and believe that the education provided works. If I were to give you a book for free, you are less likely to read and implement the contents of the book compared to giving you a book that costs you $100.

The 4 Steps

There are four steps that you can use to implement in any area of your life that will help you educate yourself more.

The four steps are as followed:

  • Read
  • Listen
  • Associate
  • Implement

Read

Reading books is one of the best ways to shut down from technology and induce yourself into someone’s life-long experiences. When we go through life, we learn from our experiences. To speed up our learning, we can go and learn from others and their experiences. If somebody touches a hot barbecue and gets burned, will you touch it as well? You probably won’t.

Listen

We listen to so much junk all of our lives. In the media, such as social media, news, radio etc. Most of these news channels share negative stories 90% of the time. They share drama, uncertainty, and things that usually don’t lift you up or educate you.

I highly recommend removing yourself from all media that doesn’t have a positive impact on your life and instead focus on listening to content that lifts you up, inspires, educates and is overall positive.

Listening to just 20 minutes of a podcast or audiobook once a day either in my car or while going through my morning routine has a big impact on my entire day. Your morning routine is what makes your day.

These are the platforms I consume my daily audio content on:

  • Spotify Podcasts
  • Apple Podcasts
  • Scribd

Associate

You know the famous saying. You are who you surround yourself with. If you are serious about changing your life, you need to change your circle of friends. Think of the 5 people you spend the most time with, now think of where they are in their life. Are they where you want to be or trying to get there? If they have the result that you want, then great. But if they don’t, I suggest you find those who do and hang out with them.

Implement

No knowledge will ever bring any result unless it is acted upon. Listening, reading and associating, is only have the battle. Where the results come in, is the implementation. Your actions need to align with where you want to go. Start implementing things one step at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself. This is a process that takes time.

The best time to start was yesterday and the next best time to start is today. Go take action and let’s stay in touch so we can work together to achieve greatness.
